Manchester United have agreed a deal with Chelsea to buy Mason Mount for £60m.

WHAT HAPPENED? United and Chelsea have finally come to an agreement over a deal for Mount. United had a bid of £55m ($69m) rejected earlier this week but have now agreed to pay £55m plus £5m ($6m) in add-ons. GOAL understands that United will only end up paying the full extra £5m in the event Mount wins the Premier League title or Champions League multiple times.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: United and Chelsea have been locked in negotiations throughout the summer window, with United tabling no fewer than three bids for the England international. It now appears that the saga is finally edging towards a conclusion.

AND WHAT’S MORE: Chelsea have taken steps to trim the squad of new manager Mauricio Pochettino, and have also sold Kai Havertz to Arsenal, while seeing Kalidou KoulibalyN’Golo Kante, and Edouard Mendy head to Saudi Arabia.

Sources told ESPN the bonuses due to Chelsea are “strongly dependent” on appearances and Mount’s success at Old Trafford.

Sources added that, with Mount currently on holiday, his medical with United is set to take place next week.

The two clubs have reached a compromise after Chelsea originally demanded £70m for the England international. United have seen bids of £40m, £50m and £55m rejected by Chelsea.

Mount, 24, was set to enter the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and negotiations over a new deal had collapsed. Had he stayed at Chelsea, he could have left as a free agent next summer.

He will become manager Erik ten Hag’s first new signing of the summer.

Mount leaves Chelsea having made 195 appearances for his boyhood club. He was part of the team which won the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel in 2021.

Mount, who has agreed personal terms with United, will next undergo a medical and will be part of Ten Hag’s squad for the preseason tour of the United States, which begins in New York on July 20.

He could make his United debut in a friendly against Leeds United in Oslo on July 12.

What is Man Utd’s next transfer priority?

With the Mount deal agreed, United’s focus is expected to turn to the recruitment of a striker and goalkeeper.

Options for a No 9 include Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt. United have made initial contact with Atalanta.

David De Gea is officially out of contract at midnight on Friday.

Inter Milan’s Andre Onana has emerged as a top target. United have also looked at Porto’s Diogo Costa and Brentford’s David Raya.

United remain in the market for a central defender, but are only likely to recruit if there is a departure in that position.
